Liquefaction Assessment

During earthquakes, seismic waves can produce shear strain levels capable to produce excess of pore water pressure in the soil. Such excess of pore water pressure can drastically reduce the effective normal stress, directly related to the soil resistance, and the soil may behaves as a viscous fluid, generating large and dangerous settlements.

Liquefaction Assessment can be performed with simplified methods from in-situ tests results like SPT or CPT or with advanced methods such finite element analysis with sophisticated material models (PM4Sand, etc) capable to reproduce the generation of excess pore water pressure.
